Living and Working in Beaverton

Tektronix moved into its campus in Beaverton, Oregon in May, 1959, and has been a staple in the community ever since. The company is Oregon’s first high technology firm and was instrumental to the creation of the “Silicon Forest”. Located about 20 minutes west of downtown Portland and just an hour from the Oregon Coast, Beaverton offers the allure of a diverse, big city and the quality of life of an outdoor recreational haven. It’s no wonder that in 2018, Beaverton ranked 3rd in Livability’s Top 10 Places to Raise a Family.

With 90 parks, 60 miles of biking and walking trails and 1,400 acres of dedicated natural areas, every home in Beaverton is less than a mile from a local park. Tektronix’s campus itself features walking trails and sports fields that we make available to community youth leagues. As part of Washington County, Beaverton also has easy access to the world famous wineries of the Willamette Valley and the region’s minor league baseball team, the Hillsboro Hops. Hikers, canoers, kayakers, skiers, mountain climbers, and other outdoor adventurists have plenty of options out their front door or within a short drive.

Beaverton is also among the most international cities in the Pacific Northwest with more than 100 languages spoken in the homes of Beaverton School District families. This makes the city a special attraction for diverse businesses and ethnic cuisines earning the city its own reputation as a food hub.  More than 30 local food trucks are a 5-minute bike ride from the Tektronix campus, including the region’s largest food cart pod – the BG Food Cartel – located in the heart of Beaverton. Locals also love to visit Powell’s bookstore with thousands of new and used books at Cedar Hills Crossing.

Compared to other major west coast cities, Beaverton’s residential real estate is also affordable. With average rent around $1,350 and a median home price just under $400,000, it may be a step up in prices compared to non-coastal states. But compared to the suburbs of Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, it’s a steal.

Beaverton also boasts the strongest public-school districts in Oregon, earning an “A” rating for its teachers, college preparedness, and diversity from Niche.com.

In addition to Tektronix, the Beaverton area hosts the headquarters of name-brand companies like Columbia Sportswear, Intel and Nike, leading to substantial city growth. Beaverton blends the opportunities of a strong business environment with the warm culture of a friendly suburban community.
